Where to Mount New Car Tires

Each year people run into circumstances that requires them to replace fewer than all four tires. When you need new tires on your vehicle, it makes a difference whether you mount them on the front or on the back. Let Ramsey Mazda explain the importance of properly mounting and balancing your tires, and whether the new tires should be on the front or the back.

And what better way to do that than through a video that's an oldie, but a goody!

Be An Informed Consumer

Insist your two new tires are mounted on the rear of your vehicle. You may be asking yourself, "What's the difference?". New tires have a deeper tread which grip the road and channel water more effectively than the worn tires.

If you're driving and you come across standing water you must drive through, vehicles with new tires on the front will cause the front tires to grip while the rear tires will hydroplane first. When the rear tires loose traction first, it causes your vehicle to fishtail and loose control.

If your new vehicle's tires are mounted on the back, it is far less likely for fishtailing to occur. If there is any loss of traction on the more worn front tires, the driver feel the loss of traction through the steering wheel which allows them to make the necessary adjustments to the speed and steering – assisting them in regaining control of your vehicle. Making it less likely of experiencing a collision.

Your tires are the only part of your vehicle making contact with the road, and proper contact is due to properly aligned and mounted tires is crucial. So remember, when replacing only two tires on your vehicle – don't put your best foot forward. Always put the new tires on the rear for optimal performance and traction.
