The 2 Features Behind 4 Mazda IIHS Top Safety Picks for 2018

2018 Mazda Top Safety Pick

Ramsey Mazda is pleased to have 4 vehicles that were deemed Top Safety Picks by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) because of their performance in collision testing. To be an IIHS Top Safety Pick for 2018, a vehicle will have to receive the following ratings:

  • Good rating in the driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests
  • Advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention
  • Acceptable or good headlight rating

The Mazda3, Mazda CX-3 & Mazda CX-9 were all awarded the Top Safety Pick designation for 2018. In addition, the Mazda CX-5 was named an 2018 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ because this crossover SUV also scored the top rating of Good in the passenger-side small overlap front testing done.

There are many safety features offered for all 4 of these models that help each of them give you peace of mind every time you’re behind the wheel in North New Jersey and beyond. Among the ones to help you in the course of an accident are:

  • 6 airbags that inflate during a collision to minimize injury
  • LATCH child safety seat anchors & upper tether anchors to keep your youngest ones secure
  • Door beams build to absorb side impacts to lessen injury
  • Fold-away brake pedal assembly designed to release & minimize damage to your legs

But there are 2 accident-prevention features that the IIHS also attributes to their Top Safety Pick rating for the Mazda3, CX-3, CX-5 and CX-9.

Mazda Smart Brake Support

Smart Brake Support

Mazda Smart Brake Support is an upgrade that enhances the already-present Smart City Brake System, which automatically applies the brakes & reduces engine output in the event that the vehicle is getting too close to the one in front of you & is about to crash. Distance is determined by a laser sensor mounted to the windshield.

When choosing Smart Brake Support, you’ll get the benefit of a technology that detects obstacles or vehicles 200 meters (or approximately 656 feet) in front of yours. With that, the feature will alert you both visually and audibly if it feels like your Mazda is approaching an obstacle or other car rapidly.

Adaptive Front-lighting System

The Mazda adaptive front-lighting system is designed to give you an even better view when going around curves at night or during inclement weather when the sky is darkened. This feature enhances the field of view compared to normal headlights by automatically taking your Mazda's speed and steering input into account on where to point the low-beam headlights.

The headlights will point in your intended traveling direction to illuminate the path you're on at a greater distance. The onboard auto-leveling function distributes the light stably while not blinding drivers of oncoming vehicles, even when your elevation changes.

Any of these 4 Mazda models are great choices if you want a safe vehicle that will give you reliability, style and the amenities you desire. Contact Ramsey Mazda to learn more about the Mazda3, Mazda CX-3, Mazda CX-5 or Mazda CX-9 today!
